Water Management in Coastal Cities of the Future

Dear Colleagues and Friends of the AWRA-NCRS,

The 7th National Capital Region Water Resources Symposium will be held April 12, 2019 at the University of the District of Columbia. This one-day symposium brings together experts from governmental agencies, academia, the private sector, and non-profits to discuss challenges and opportunities for sustainable management of water resources and infrastructure in the region, as well as nationally and internationally.

This year’s symposium theme is Water Management in Coastal Cities of the Future. Featured speakers at the plenary session include Dr. Fernando Miralles-Wilhelm (keynote), Professor and Chair, Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Science at the University of Maryland; and invited panelists: Nicholas Bonard, Branch Chief for Water Resources Protection & Mitigation, Department of Energy & Environment, DC Government (moderator); William Sweet, PhD, NOAA Oceanographer; Phetmano Phannavong, JD, Leadre, DC’s Flood Risk Management Program; and Brian Batten, PhD, Senior Coastal Scientist and Project Manager, Dewberry’s Resilience Solutions Group. Our luncheon speaker is Jeff C. Moeller, P.E., Director of Water Technologies at Water Environment Research Foundation. In addition, 40 research and technical papers will be presented at con-current sessions and poster exhibits, including a Special Session “Data Capture, Analytics, and Visualization for Managing Coastal Cities of the Future.”

All attendees are expected to register. Lunch & refreshments are included in the registration fee. Please register online (link below) by April 9 for the early bird discount. Payment is accepted online by credit card or by cash/ check payment at the event on April 12.
